Can I Use Foam Board Insulation With Batt Insulation?
Yes, foam board insulation is an excellent complement to batt insulation. Foam board insulation can add insulation and eliminate thermal bridging when used in wall and ceiling assemblies insulated with batts. It can potentially replace the vapor barrier and house wrap as well.
Here are four common applications of effectively using Halo foam board insulation in combination with batt insulation:
To insulate the inside of the basement or foundation walls. Halo Interra foam board insulation is applied to the foundation wall, and batt insulation is applied afterward.
To insulate the inside of the above-grade or below-grade walls. Halo Interra foam board insulation can be applied to the studs, covering the batt insulation.
To insulate the underside of ceilings. Halo Interra foam board insulation is applied to the underside of the ceiling joists.
To insulate the exterior side of the above-grade walls. Halo Exterra foam board insulation is applied against the sheathing or over the house wrap. (Halo Exterra, when seam taped, can replace the house wrap.)
