What is Graphite Foam Insulation?

Graphite foam insulation, or graphite polystyrene (GPS) foam insulation, contains many small pockets of air within a polymer matrix containing graphite. The graphite particles actually increase the foam’s resistance to the flow of heat, or R-value, by reflecting heat energy.

GPS offers a stable long-term R-value over time and is breathable, which helps reduce the risk of mold and rot that is often associated with foam insulations that have a tendency for higher levels of long-term water retention.

Graphite foam insulation boards can also be laminated to increase durability and performance.

Neopor, which was invented by BASF, is a leading brand of GPS and Halo is a popular insulation system that is made with Neopor.
